This institution of higher learning was established in 1961 with an enrolment of 40 students. It has reached its present glory due to the administrative acumen, academic excellence and dedication of Principals and teachers.

Stress on discipline and academic excellence is the soul of every organised body and the mammoth student population of the college not only subscribe to this view but also is an embodiment of institutional discipline. The faculty of this college strives to make an honest, conscientious and sincere sffort yo incalculate the basic human attributes of truth, beauty and the goodness in the students.

This is the largest co-educational institution in the state enrolling more than 3000 students every year. All the streams viz, Arts, Commerce, Science, B.C.A., B.B.A. are taught in this college. P.G. Programme in Geography is another attraction of this college.

The campus of the college is spread over an environmental friendly area of 24.375 acres which houses two seperate hostels for boys and girls and staff quarters apart from administrative block, lecture theatres, well equipped laboratories and an auditorium to carry out extra curricular activities. The college has rich library having collection of over 48,000 volumes. Moreover, latest journals, magazines, periodicals etc. are also subscribed to be in touch with the flow of information. In addition to the University sub office, the college has two distance Education Study Centers functioning under the aegis of Indira Ganndi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi and Directorate of Distance Education, University of Jammu, Jammu for those students who cannot seek regular admission.

The college is affiliated to the University of Jammu. It is covered under section 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act 1956. It has highly qualified staff on its faculty in different disciplines. There are around 135 support staff members apart from the teaching faculty. Outreach and extension activities are performed through NCC and NSS. Career Counselling and Placement Cell is in place for the guidance of students. UGC funded Women's Study Centre is also operational in this college to carry out women empowerment programs.

The college is accrediated with B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accrediation Council, Bangalore. In cnsonance with the National Action Plan of the National Assessment and Accrediation Council (NAAC), Banglore, the college has constituted an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQRC) as a post accrediation quality sustenance measure. The Prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the performance of the institution.
